1. Last of The Dreamers
Great opening track. Introduces the album by calling out to different types of people, but not mentioning what for, it's just referred to as 'this'. Interestingly enough they are all outcasts including "The paedophile suppressing his urges" and "The baby that struggles to talk, but can manage to gargle the language of god". Short, but very effective.
2. We Are Fucking Angry
This is certainly The King Blue's heaviest track to date and full of anger. You can hear just how angry Itch is through the tone of his voice, and what is he angry about? The corrupt government of course. I've seen this track performed live a couple of times now and it definitely gets the audience moving, it's just one of those songs you can shout out.
3. Set The World On Fire
Out of all the songs on the album, this is one I relate to the most. Sticking with the political themes, it explains how bad the world is right now and how setting it on fire and starting again would be a much better solution than fighting and starting wars. This track also contains one of my favourite lyrics from the album - "Fight the power, man, we ARE the power".
4. Dancehall
This track can sound very out of place on the album from it's weird 1920's circus styled music. The first couple of lines of lyrics stay with the theme of the album, but then it moves on to being cremated into a crystal ball. It sounds more like an interlude than an actual track. Nevertheless, I still enjoy this.
5. The Future's Not What it Used to Be
The title of this song describes exactly what it's about, there is no hope left in this world. I'm pleased to say that this is the most reggae/ska influenced track on the album and sounds like it would fit into their previous albums which have concentrated on this style of music more. The song builds up to a climax to where Itch spits out his lyrics very fast, his voice just sounds so reggae it's amazing. Definitely a highlight of the album for me.
6. I Want You
Possibly their most popular song off the album with it's simple structue of lyrics - basically listing two things that belong together over and over again. It's very feel good and great to sing along to, always a crowd pleaser. Obviously the theme of this song is love and it's witty in the way that Itch has managed to badmouth the government whilst making it slightly romantic. "Like the right wing, want their boneheads. Like the bankers, want their bonus".
7. 5 Bottles of Shampoo
Itch usually performs this as a spoken word at their gigs and captures the audiences full attention. The lyrics are basically expressing his love for all women and how most men do not appreciate them as they should do. My favourite ever King Blue's lyric is in this song also; "But don't you dare tell women what they can and can't do, when it was a woman that gave life to you". I feel slightly feministic when I sing it, but of course Itch is a man so it sounds pretty damn amazing to hear a man sing that line.
8. Sex Education
Yey for another ska sounding track! But what makes this track sound different from the rest of the album is the female background vocals that seem to repeat "sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, education". The lyrics of this song are actually quite funny in the way that it tells a story of how sex education is taught in today's society.
9. Shooting Fascists
Another short track on this album, but this time it's just Itch and ukulele. It makes a statement on far right political groups such as the EDL and BNP and includes another one of my favourite lines on the album - "Granddad didn't vote for fascists, he shot them down".
10. Headbutt
This could possibly be the most 'fun' song on the album, but is definitely the most mainstream, pop/punk sounding track. The tempo is quite fast and the lyrics stay away from political storytelling and concentrate on love. Alike with I Want You, it's not too serious and very feel good.
11. Does Anybody Care About Us
This seems to be the track I keep forgetting is on this album, which is ironic giving the title of it. It's not that I don't like the song, because I do! I think it's probably down to the guitars making it sound more classic rock, rather than their usual styles of music. The lyrics are great and are again aimed at the vast majority of people in the country. Itch is sort of taking a leadership role and speaking on behalf of everyone not getting what they deserve, whether it be their benefits or a job.
12. Everything Happens for a Reason
Lyrically, this is probably my favourite track on the album. It's very personal and about Itch becoming a father for the first time. The style of music is quite different to what they normally do, it's very calm and full of string instruments. The last minute of the song the music starts to get a little heavier but it doesn't really go anywhere.
Overall, this is a fantastic album that concentrates on two main themes - love and politics. The majority of the tracks sound completely different from one another, especially when you listen to Dancehall and We Are Fucking Angry one after another. I love this album so much, definitely one of my favourites from 2011.
